Happiness Habits Course

This course is based on Happiness Habits 101 that Jackson created and taught as an instructor at the University of Alabama.

What do we want out of life? If we keep asking the question we might say money, health, joy, purpose, or success. But the truth is we want all of these things so that we can be happy, right?

Would you want to have the perfect soulmate, the dream job, or the perfect life but be totally miserable?

The truth is success without happiness is failure. And all of these things are a means to an end – happiness. Aristotle said that happiness is the only goal that we pursue as an end in itself and not as a means to something else.

That’s why I say that not only is happiness a subject – it is life’s most important subject. So we ought to study it.

In this course you’ll learn about happiness from positive psychology, neuroscience, and contemplative philosophy. As we discuss these principles you’ll also learn the science of habits from the course textbook, the New York Times best-selling Atomic Habits by James Clear. This book walks you through the science of how to build better habits and eliminate bad ones.

As we progress through the course you’ll begin the “Happiness Habits Project”. This is where we will use what we’ve learned about happiness to select and build three new happiness habits and a morning ritual. The rest of the course we’ll go in depth on several topics and you implement your happiness habits. These topics include managing your actions, state of mind, relationships, purpose, spirituality, and more.
